How we work
At the Monsters we create products for the on- and offline world. Products such as software, rich internet apps, websites and products for mobile devices. The user experience (UX) and the right choice of technical realization are on top of our list. In short, Monsters really like the interactive stuff, the things that blow your mind and give you a great experience.
Design
We strongly believe in a user centered and goal directed design approach in all our work. This means that we look for the right user and client goals and create a product that connects perfectly with these goals. Depending on the project scope we define the user experience workflow. Ideally we use the design phase to create a strong foundation for the entire project. But we are realistic, not all projects have the resources for this. That is why we can always come to an agreement where we put as much effort as possible into the design phase without exceeding project limitations.
Development
At the Monsters design and development go hand in hand. During the earliest stages of the design phase we choose the right kind of technology to create the product. We love to build rich applications that work cross platform on both desktop computers and mobile devices. As early as possible we create interactive prototypes of complex interactions that we show to you. This way you cannot only see but also feel what direction your project is going instead of having to hope that the design deliverables are turned into the interactive product you had in mind. Once the design and prototypes are at the agreed state we create the final product and of course provide support once everything is live.
The Wolf projects
The Monsters are movie geeks. We watch movies to relax but also to get inspired.
Example: In the movie Pulp Fiction when the shit hits the fan for main characters Jules and Vincent, mob kingpin Marsellus Wallace brings in Winston 'The Wolf' Wolfe to solve the problem. There is a tight deadline and many very important stakes are in play. The Wolf takes the lead, solves the problem and takes off with the girl at the end. If you've got no clue what we're talking about you should be very excited since that probably means that you haven't seen one of the coolest movies around.
We use the "The Wolf" metaphor at the Monsters when we help clients that have an ongoing project and hire us to help them solve problems. Often this is a small resource problem, something we take care of as fast as possible to keep the rest of the project on track. But we also come across bigger issues where we act as Mister Wolf designers or developers to make sure you still make your deadline. During Wolf projects expectation management is the way to success. From the start we'll be as realistic as possible, unlike Winston Wolfe we are not able to get rid of decapitated bodies, but we sure can help you with the realization of your product.
Please note, Monsters are sweet creatures and won't harm any humans during the creation of their Wolf projects.
Development techniques we like to use:
| Web: | HTML(5), CSS & JavaScript |
|---|---|
| Backend: | Ruby (on Rails) & PHP |
| RIA: | Adobe Flash |
| Desktop: | Adobe AIR, Cocoa, C++ & Qt |
| Mobile: | Adobe Flash, Adobe AIR & Objective-C |
Our user experience (UX) phase can contain the following steps:
- User research
- Information architecture
- Interaction design
- Interface design
- Visual (graphic) design
- Illustrations
This is an indication of the workflow we like, nothing is written in stone. To avoid common misconceptions about terminology feel free to contact us with questions.
